Merida's best accessory is her uncontrollable red curls and from the moment I decided to create my own Disney Princess Collection, I knew that I'd have fun drawing her hair. To complement its red orange colour, I decided to take inspiration from the king himself - King Fergus.
His bright and loud personality reflected his character design and I thought the costume designers were spot on with the colour palette they used. The dark colours brought out his bright red hair, which we all know is where Merida got her hair colour from. Of course, fur had to be incorporated into the design to give recognition to the bear theme of the story.
I love it when I have so much fun with the drawing process because that  is then translated to the aesthetics of the final illustration.
